The Fan Meta Reader is dedicated to bringing thought-provoking, theoretically innovative, and stylistically unique fan analysis – “meta” – to a wide readership. This blog was conceived as part of the growing wave of interactions and intersections between fandom and academia. At such venues as fan and industry conventions, in the open source academic journal, Transformative Works and Cultures and on the blog Fanhackers (which solicits meta on fans), in publications such as Katherine Larsen and Lynn Zubernis’s Fangasm: Supernatural Fangirls and Anne Jamison’s Fic: Why Fanfiction is Taking Over the World, in the growing numbers of self-identifed fan scholars (‘acafans’) whose work bridges academia and fandom, and even within fan communities themselves, fans and scholars increasingly are exchanging ideas and enthusiasm. The Fan Meta Reader aims to contribute to such conversation by offering an informal place to find thoughtful fan writing that doesn’t fit within traditional academic publishing frameworks.
